Ian Cathro has left Estoril Praia after two years in charge, feeling 'mission accomplished'. The Scottish coach, who signed for Saint-Étienne, a historic French club in the second division, reviewed his two years at the helm of the canarinhos and guaranteed that he leaves Amoreira with a sense of 'mission accomplished'. He also highlighted one of the objectives achieved, using an expression... well in his style. 'It was two seasons and now I feel that we have reached the final point because I also have a sense of mission accomplished. That mission was to bring another image, change a little bit the mentality and say something that you will need a 'blip' but it's 'fuck maintenance'. And have another face in this club, because I believe that it is a club that is a bit special and I continue to believe that there is a great opportunity ahead.', said Cathro. 'We had several moments, but I will never forget - and I say this with affection -, the day of the tarja, when it was 'Coach or fans? You choose'. For two reasons: what I felt from the players on that day and also what I felt from the fans a few months after that moment. For these two reasons, it is something very special for me. Forever grateful for this moment and for these feelings.', added. 'To the fans, when I arrived here, I sat down and started speaking Portuguese, perhaps some were surprised by this, they did not know me from anywhere and there was uncertainty about what was to come, but we gradually got to know each other and I think we reached a point where there was a very strong union, because we realized that we want exactly the same thing, which is to win, progress and that I can be a good or bad coach, but I will always be there every day next to the field doing everything I can to make the team win.', said Cathro. 'I want to say thank you to all the players who passed through here in these two seasons, because it was not easy, we worked a lot, I gained a true love and I loved working with this group of players. And I believe that there are few times when there is that chemistry that makes a group a bit more special and I think this group of players managed to do it with good and bad days. It's important that they know this and I think they know.', added. 'A huge feeling of thank you, a hug and let's keep in touch. I'm very curious to see their next steps.', said Cathro.
